Laser therapy, also called low-level laser therapy (LLLT) or cold laser therapy uses harmless visible light radiation to produce a beneficial photochemical reaction within the body’s cells. LLLT does not emit heat and is not the same as LED light. The treatment uses wavelengths within the visible light spectrum that falls between 400 to 760 nanometers (red light.) These wavelengths can penetrate the skin and soft or hard tissues and have clinically proven to have a positive benefit on inflammation, pain and healing. Currently, there are over 1100 research articles reporting on the medical benefits of LLLC therapy. LLLT has no negative side effects, is cost-effective and safe. LLLT treats a wide variety of common patient complaints, painlessly.
During an LLLT session, a physician will align the laser-emitting device over all of the treatment areas associated with your complaint. Your cells will absorb the light energy (photons) and convert it into cell energy to induce the treatment benefits. The lasers used in LLLT (class 2) are not like those used to perform surgeries (class 4.) Treatments may need repeated visits to get the desired results, or only one treatment.
Low level lasers are used by physicians, dentists, physical therapists, chiropractors, occupational therapists and other medical professionals to treat various conditions.
Low Level Laser therapy creates an anti-edema effect by dilating blood vessels and activating the lymphatic drainage system (which drains swollen areas). This reduces swelling caused by trauma or inflammation post surgery. FDA clearance for post-surgical treatment (open and closed wound, scars) and plantar fasciitis.
Low Level Laser therapy exerts a very beneficial effect on pain in multiple ways. It partially blocks neural transmission of pain signals to the brain. It decreases nerve sensitivity. Laser light also lessens pain by reducing edema. A fourth pain-blocking mechanism involves the production of high levels of painkilling chemicals such as endorphins, enkephalins and opioids from the brain and adrenal gland. FDA clearances for shoulder, neck and low-back pain.
Photons of light from lasers penetrate deeply into tissues and accelerate cellular reproduction and growth. The laser light also increases the energy available to the cell by increasing ATP production so that the cell can take on nutrients faster and get rid of waste products. As a result of exposure to laser light, all cells, including the cells of tendons, ligaments and muscles are repaired faster. LLLT is perfect for patients that can't tolerate oral pain medications.
Low Level Laser Therapy significantly increases the formation of new capillaries in damaged tissue, which speeds up the healing process, closes wounds more quickly and reduces scarring. Low Level Laser Therapy also causes vasodilation, an increase in the diameter of blood vessels, which improves the delivery of blood and healing elements to damaged tissues.
Low Level Laser Therapy stimulates higher outputs of specific pro-healing enzymes in blood cells, along with improved oxygen and nutrient delivery.
Low Level Laser Therapy stimulates muscle trigger points and acupuncture points on a non-invasive basis, providing musculoskeletal pain relief.
Low Level Laser Therapy reduces the formation of scar tissue following tissues damaged from cuts, scratches, burns or surgery. LLLC is effective on old and new scars.
Slow recovery of nerves in damaged tissue and results in impaired sensory and motor function. Low Level Laser Therapy speeds up the process of axonal regeneration and nerve cell reconnection and increases the amplitude of action potentials to optimize muscle action.
Low Level Laser Therapy directly affects immunity status by stimulating the production of immunoglobulins and lymphocytes and by improving the ease of penetration of white blood cells into damaged tissue.
Low Level Laser Therapy stimulates fibroblast development (fibroblasts are the building blocks of collage, which is predominant in would healing) in damaged tissue. Collagen is the essential protein required to replace old tissue or repair tissue injuries. As a result, Low Level Laser Therapy is effective on open wounds and burns.
Abdominal inflammation, Acne, ADHD, Adhesive Capsulitis, Alopecia, Arthritis (Inflammatory), Asthma, Athlete’s foot, Autism, Back Pain, Brochial weakness, Bronchitis, Concussion, Depression, Digestion, Disc Herniation, Dizziness, Erectile Dysfunction, Fibroma, Infection, Joint Pain, Joint/lumbar/nerve inflammation, Lipolysis (Fat mediation), Meniere’s, Menopause, Migraine, Neck Pain, Onycomycosis, Peripheral Neuropathy (cold limbs), Plantar Fasciitis, Scar repair (old and recent), Sciatica, Pre/Post Surgery, TBI, Thyroid (hyper) Thyroid (hypo), Tinnitis, UTI, Wound Healing. Currently, the Erchonia XLR8 is FDA approved for effective non-surgical lipolysis (body fat reduction.)
Laser therapy can be combined with physical/physiotherapy, and chiropractic/sports medicine.
